need to establish his position by Ryneq s side He has to be officially recognized as the King s Consort before they travel to the Elven Kingdon All of these come to pass without much ado or stress, but Ryneq is suspicious of the seemingly quiet Seran As they travel through the calm waters that separated the Elven kingdom from Alel, the dragons find themselves faced with old black magic they have to collectively fight against Nykin and Fimor find themselves patrolling the Elven skies and were the first to detect the gradual breakdown of the magical borders Together, Rykin and Nykin will face Seran s wrath and black magic.and Torsere has just turned from a simple fantasy adventure into that of high fantasy.Union begins where Capture left off so it is very important to mention that these books should never be considered as stand alones Here, things that were left unsaid and unexplained are finally revealed and are made out, but then this one also opensof the mysteries of this world.Ryneq s and Nykin s relationship has gotten stronger and Ryneq is showing fully his possessiveness for his consort The change in his character has endeared him to his people as they clearly see his happiness The two men are solid partners in this book with their love for each other The story unfolds in a calm manner, even in the midst of drama and action that comes out of nowhere, just like Seran s method of attack The power of the dragons are also establishedfully here These are an old creature whose knowledge even the elves have forgotten The marriage of Cerylae not only unifies the two kingdoms and strengthens its borders, it also reveals the strength the dragons hold over the Elves and their magic This book hints ofthings to come, forgotten knowledge coming to the fore With the attack on the Elven borders, it is soon clear that the elves will also benefit from the union So the balance tips now in favor of Ryneq and Nykin.I find myself loving this storythan Capture simply becauseof the Elves and dragons were revealed here and a lot of holes from the first book were finally laid to rest in this one It is also clearer, with this read, that the role of Nykin and Fimor will becomethan just the Consort Dragon rider and dragon army strength The knowledge the dragons have kept alive within their minds for millenia are a treasure that will be revealed in the succeeding books which just makes me now impatient for what comes next As I mentioned when I reviewed CAPTURE, some of the parts I didn t like about the first instalment of this trilogy were caused by having to introduce so many characters, and a new world, to the reader This is often the case with the first book of a trilogy, or indeed a series though less so The negative aspects, for me, were resolved in UNION, and I really enjoyed it The plot moves on from Book 1 to the wedding between Morkryn, the elven Prince and Cerylea, Torsere s Princess, and Ryneq s bel As I mentioned when I reviewed CAPTURE, some of the parts I didn t like about the first instalment of this trilogy were caused by having to introduce so many characters, and a new world, to the reader This is often the case with the first book of a trilogy, or indeed a series though less so The negative aspects, for me, were resolved in UNION, and I really enjoyed it The plot moves on from Book 1 to the wedding between Morkryn, the elven Prince and Cerylea, Torsere s Princess, and Ryneq s beloved sister The Union of the title also refers to Nykin and Ryneq, as they can now be joined as Prince and Consort, and consummate the relationship they started in Book 1 Nykin and Ryneq s relationship is definitelyfleshed out in this instalment and they have some pretty hot scenes, which were missing from CAPTURE I apologise to Annabelle Jacobs for highlighting this because the author really did know best, and the sex scenes were just right for this story, whereas they would have been gratuitous in the last. The descriptions of the Elven world and city, Alel, are wonderful, and one of the aspects I adore about fantasy is the thought process involved in creating new worlds, rituals and vistas The elves live in homes built in the Ghaleth D ahl or Giant Velvet Oaks, which are joined together by walkways in the tree tops The wedding itself between Cerylea and Morkryn is short and lovely, but it is the gorgeous images conjured by the Neflahstra Ahguil Night Flowering Water Star, flowers, and its effects which will stay with me.The troubles with the evil Seren are still with our heroes, and this time he recruits dark witches to help him in his quest to conquer Ryneq s, Torsere Several times in this story Annabelle Jacobs intelligent and beautiful dragons save the day, and we may lose another dragon rider to love My favourite dragon, Fimor, is in fine fettle and continues to be a great character in this trilogy I must also mention that again Paul Richmond does a wonderful fantasy cover.I have to end this easy to readWould I read it again Yes I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK, BY THE AUTHOR, IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW Reviewed for Divine MagazineThis story continues straight after part 1, which is really great, because that s exactly what I d hoped for, when I finished reading part 1.To start with, I ll get the negatives out the way there weremistakes in this one than the previous story There were still missing full stops and quotation marks, but there were also a few missing words here and there and a few sentences that would have been really long, but made sense, were cut in two and sounded disconnected because of it There was also an instance of Avelor being referred to as Lerran. In terms of the story, the only negative is that it started really well, then flagged once they reached the Elven world of Alel and didn t pick up again until 10% before the end of the story Compared to the previous story, which was all action, adventure and danger, this one missed the excitement of that, because it focusedon the Union of Morkryn and Cerylea, as the title suggests, as well as Ryneq and Nykin s relationship Despite the threat of Seran being mentioned very early on, it never amounts to anything until the end, which is disappointing.Another problem I had was the sex scene It s the first in the story and the first between Ryneq and Nykin It really irked me that, despite Ryneq asking if he could top Nykin, he went ahead with a physical representation of that before he could agree, which he did He also never asked if Nykin had bottomed before, beginning only with one thumb thrust where the sun don t shine, without waiting for permission, then following up with two fingers It felt a little rushed and not the tender moment we d been led to expect I m not a fan of arrogance or assumptions in my sex scenes and this is how it came across, which is a shame because I ve always loved Ryneq. Now, onto the good It s true I love Ryneq I love Nykin and was so relieved that my favourite side characters from the previous book were back Faelon and Avelor, with much bigger parts All the characters had a new, added dimension to them that we didn t get to see in part 1, but which further build on what we knew of them.At the same time, when it s appropriate, we re given a refresher of the history and important information that we learned in part 1, without it sounding like a recap of the entire previous story or being out of place Reading this straight after reading part 1, I never felt like I have having the entire story of part 1 shoved back down my throat again, as if it had been months But, if it had been months since I read part 1, I would still have been adequately reminded of the most important events of that part of the story, without needing to go back and re read it.As always, Ryneq and Nykin s relationship is beautiful It s great that, even when they re not the only people they can trust, they still talk openly about their feelings, plans and Ryneq s responsibilities as King Misunderstandings happen and they keep secrets when necessary, but they always talk it out with each other and try to see the other side I really love that.I also love that Eldin and the rest of the kingdom, guards and riders don t treat Nykin any differently, for being in a relationship with Ryneq No one really cares that he s the King s Consort, because he ll always be a dragon rider first and foremost Which is exactly what Nykin and Ryneq want.Again, the world building of the Elven world Alel is outstanding There s still a smattering of action and adventure for the first 20% of the story, then it tails off intopersonal, political business Mostly, the story is about learning as much as they can about the Elven people and their kingdom Overall, this one lost the impact of part 1, because the faltered so much into being too comfortable with the Alel world, in the middle It started and ended with good promise and the same enthralling detail and story telling of part 1, but the middle part really let it down for me and that s where I took the star from.Like my review of part 1, I really can t say much about the plot without giving away spoilers, which I m sorry for Just know that Fimor and the elves are just as amazing as before, Ryneq s jealousy is entertaining and Nykin s childlike curiosity is contagious Though there wasn t nearly enough action for me, I was still glued to the story throughout. To me, part 1 was a complete story in itself The same can t be said for this one It feels like the first half of a much longer story, which I assume and hope will be continued in part 3.I still can t wait to read part 3, though, because I just know that the slow progress of this story was a build up for something big in part 3 Or, I hope it is Favourite Quote Nykin nudged his arm Do you trust me Ryneq looked at the sky a moment longer before turning back to face Nykin With my life Then ride with me back to Torsere Ryneq loved to watch him like that, animated and so full of life He was still haunted by images from when they d been Hatak s prisoners when Nykin was broken and tortured almost to death It would take a long while before Ryneq could get those images out of his head, but seeing Nykin as was now made it a little easier to push them away I really enjoy fantasy books when the world building is well done and this definitley fits that description I read both books in the series last weekend and now am hoping like heck that it doesn t take too long for the third book to come out.I got a very strong Lord of the Rings vibe in this book because the Elves were a much bigger part of this than in Capture, but I quite enjoyed that aspect There s nothing wrong with images of sexy Elves with long hair and pointy ears at all, IMHO The desc I really enjoy fantasy books when the world building is well done and this definitley fits that description I read both books in the series last weekend and now am defeat of the Lowland Army at Torsere and with King Seran on the run, King Ryneq and his sister, Cerylea, continue their journey to the Elven City of Alel to proceed with the union of the two realms Fully recovered from his injuries and newly announced as King Ryneq s Consort, Nykin returns to his duty as a Dragon Rider in the King s army He and Ryneq have little opportunity to celebrate their union, but make the most of their time together before leaving for Alel Since the ambush at Neest River destroyed the main bridge, traveling by ship is the only option An unusual storm threatens their crossing, making Ryneq wonder if some new magic is rising against them As the wedding between Cerylea and the Elven prince Morkryn approaches, the dragons sense a malevolent presence To protect the young couple s fragile bond, Nykin and his dragon, Fimor, take to the skies, setting up a patrol along the border of the magical city But as the evil grows potent, the enchanted boundary grows weaker Ryneq and Nykin must combine their strength to protect their people from Seran s extreme plot for revenge 4.5 starsI liked this better than the first The elves were interesting and the plot thickened destroy them all They are sailing towards the elves city when a magic tempest almost kills all of them, and only the dragons magic saves them. The days after they arrive in Alel are calm and nothing happens during the wedding Renyq and Nikin almost dont have time for themselves and in this book there are a lot of dialogue and pages spent in description and sometimes i was really bored, bcs this should be an m m romance story and i didnt see a lot of m m romance in this book, only few scenes.Few days after the wedding, the witch attacks the barrier protecting the elves city and one of the elves on patrol with Renyq, Faelon gets badly hurt Nikin and Fimor with their magic will be able to save him just in time, while the other will go in search of the witch. For days they dont see her again, and when she appers again they are able to restrain her with an old spell The witch is weak and near death, but before she dies tells Renyq that her mission was complete, that she had to distract them, while Seran and another witch with an army, were marching towards Torsere. They dont have time to go back sailing the sea, and Nikin tells Renyq they have another option, they both can ride on Fimor and be there sooner The book ends with the 2 lovers flying towards the city.I m not saying that the book was bad, I m saying that we dont see Nikin and Renyq together enough Their union cerimony was fast and soon after Renyq needs to meet with his generals leaving Nikin alone at their feast That was a bit sad After that, they need to leave the city and go to Alel, and there they can spend only some hours together each day and most of the time are too tired to dothan kiss We dont see the lovers talking about their relationship, and only in the last page of this book, when they are flying with Fimor we see Renyq tell to Nikin that he loves him and the younger man telling to him that he loves him too.I hoped to seeinteractions btw the 2 lovers, I m not talking about sex scenes, but daily life together, and i still hope that we can see this happen in the last book of the serie 3.5 Heart Review by DanIn the second installment in the trilogy we are off to the land of the Elves continues to be the main focus of the story in between all the adventures the two men face.I enjoyed the continued world building that the author is doing with this series Book two follows directly on after book one without a gap, and book two ends in a cliffhanger, so it is a good thing that book three is also already available I do have to be honest and say that book two was a little flatter than book one There were a few spots where it really bogged down, but overall, the author s writing style is very good, the characters continue to be believable and I can t wait to finish the series.so off to book three I go I m recommending this book, even though it below our 4.0 recommendation cutoff, because it is necessary to read this one before you read book three This book was provided free in
