Not a bad read but not that great either I have to ask though HOW THE HELL IS THIS A MIDDLE GRADE BOOK There are so many curse words used in this book it should have a picture of a sailor on it Or maybe a trucker Aside from the major use of profanity I had other issues with the book I mean, it s only 216 pages long How many issues can a short book have Plenty.I won t list them ALL but I will mention the biggest issue How is this not almost totally not like The Legion series by Kami Not a bad read but not that great either I have to ask though HOW THE HELL IS THIS A MIDDLE GRADE BOOK There Supernatural but for kids I don t know It felt weird and awkward to read to me There are redeeming qualities to the story though It wasn t all complete garbage The characters are interesting The idea of how and why people start seeing ghosts was an interesting concept The plot lacked some kind of spark though Almost like it needed to havethought put into it There are going to be 5 6 books in the series So I may possibly read the rest some day Will I go out of my way to demand the books as soon as they are released No.Read it anyway and find out if you like it for yourself Who knows You might dialogue enlivens this Pacific Northwest page turner Printed in large type, it is a fine choice for hi lo readers who like a good scare Paula Willey Macy new to a town discovers that her high school is haunted through horror stories and starts to question her sanity once she starts seeing things I was not really into this book as much I stopped reading for a bit I want to try and finish the book and continue with the series some time this summer I recommend this book to readers who are interested in horror type of books. Was the plot well crafted No Were the characters dynamic No But I will certainly be recommending this to my less confident readers It looks like a high school book It reads like many high school ghost stories, but at a reading level that many of my special education students will be comfortable with picking up It doesn t look like a baby book. Read this book is about 2 hours Was quick and engaging Loved the story. This young girl has to find a way to learn how to deal with her new ability to see ghosts and what is happening around her I won t give a lot away but I recommend it to anyone who likes a not too scary ghost story, but an intriguing storyline.First of a 6 book series. It s rare to read a thriller written for a YA audience with such a perceptive sense of character and such wonderful descriptive writing I found myself snickering at the wisecracking, acerbic characters, particularly Macy Of course, these high schoolers are much cooler than I was in high schoolthey relike the high schoolers I wished I could be I found myself very drawn in by the eerie tone of The Burning and its accelerating sense of danger lurking ahead The paranormal touches were It s rare to read a thriller written for a YA audience with such a perceptive sense of character and such wonderful descriptive writing I found myself snickering at the wisecracking, acerbic characters, particularly Macy Of course, these high schoolers are much cooler than I was in high schoolthey relike the high schoolers I wished I could be I found myself very drawn in by the eerie tone of The Burning and its accelerating sense of danger lurking ahead The paranormal touches were handled extremely well and in the genre of kids who see ghosts, I found this real but not quite world to be fresh and surprising I actually usually avoid genre fiction, but am so glad I gave this series a chance I absolutely can t wait to find out what happens at the end of the series, and what dark secret lurks in the town of Grey Hills Also, onenote I notice some of the other reviewers mentioning swearing I felt like the author struck the right balance and represented the tone of how teenagers actually talk It did not bother me at all and seems fine for the intended age group and up.Lastly, I think this book might be a source of solace for young adults who have experienced grief and loss the writing was very sensitive on this Very compelling ghost story with intriguing characters, definitely kept me on the edge of my seat I read most of it in one sitting because I couldn t put it down. The author did a great job building tension and moving the story forward I loved the characters and I think the author successfully captured the way teenagers especially teenagers in a difficult situation speak The end was abrupt but that is pretty standard for books that are part of a series.I loved the book and can t wait for t Very compelling ghost story with intriguing characters, definitely kept me on the edge of my seat I read most of it in one sitting because I couldn t put it down. The author did a great job building tension and moving the story forward I loved the characters and I think the author successfully captured the way teenagers especially teenagers in a difficult situation speak The end was abrupt but that is pretty standard for books that are part of a series.I loved the book and can t wait for the next one This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I love this book, I think it s interesting I would love to keep continuing reading these books This book was about a girl named Macy and her brother had recently passed away and she can also see ghosts, she also has recently met new friends and they are kind of ghost hunters
