Wilmer Mclean s farmhouse The Civil War did began at Wilmer Mclean s house as it was the beginning of the 1st Battle of Bull Run Wilmer Mclean s farmhouse became General Beauregard s headquarters Wilmer Mclean then moved to get away from all the fighting He moved 150 miles away and into the old Appomattox Courthouse building So, yes, the Civil War did begin in Wilmer Mclean s backyard and it ended in his parlor But it began and ended with two very different buildings
