kangaroo, and a murderer Detective Cole Stephens doesn t want the pretty pastor to get away with murdering the church music director His investigative methods infuriate Christine as much as his deep brown eyes attract herCan they find the real killer and build a loving relationship based on trust I generally read edgier thrillers but a friend recommended this book, so I gave it a try It turned out to be a witty, pleasant, and cozy little romantic thriller Christine Hobbs is the spirited and pretty pastor of the Dayspring Church, where she has become a capable leader and member of the church family Unfortunately, the normally staid congregation is rocked by the murder of the church music director An arrogant detective, Cole Stephens, is sent to investigate and he immediately rubs Past I Christine s thoughts But the young pastor has been burned before, so trusting this maddening man is a struggle Cole is equally as attracted to her, but how can he trust someone who is on his short list of murder suspects Things get steadily stranger as Christine s good nature leads her to take in a homeless cat, then a pig and a kangaroo whose owners are temporarily unable to care for them The menagerie lands Pastor Hobbs in an uptight church lady s crosshairs Then Christine s friend, Lacey, aids her in her amateur sleuthing efforts to clear herself, leading tothan one harrowing situation Other members of the congregation are introduced and presented as suspects and I can honestly say that I was completely surprised by the final unmasking of the killer, who had me fooled along with everyone else.I enjoyed the gentle love story within this murder mystery Married to a cop myself, I can really appreciate the male love interest I also really liked Pastor Hobbs she is strong, funny, generous, and spiritual Coda to Murder gave me several pleasant evenings of reading in bed Nicely done 3.5 5.0J.Q Rose tells an uncomplicated story of murder and greed.Read full review in the 2013 the extremely handsome detective Cole Stephens figures out that this death was no accident but a murder and Christine soon becomes a suspect She then decides she must find out who committed this murder She enlists her best friend and they begin doing detective work on their own Soon though her detective work becomes dangerous She begins to find out there isgoing on in the Church than she knows So as she gets closer to finding the murderer she also gets closer to the lead detective The big question though is can Christine protect herself from the murderer and her heart from the gorgeous Cole I really enjoyed this quick read It is definitely a book you can pick up and finish while waiting for a couple appointments or taking breaks at work I really enjoyed the characters of Christine and Cole I thought is was a neat take on some of the traditionally thought about roles in society such as a female pastor I liked the pace and movement of the story, but I did feel that it could have had a fewtwists and turns I think it ended too early Also, though I liked the love story it was a bit quick and a bit forced due to the pace of the book I felt that if a fewtwists had been added then the love story would have seemed muchnatural Overall, it was a good little story It definitely hassuspense then anything But, if you are looking for physical love in this you won t find it It does have a christian undertone that if that doesn t interest you, you may find it a bit challenging to read At first this seems like an ordinary murder with romance, but J.Q Rose has brought in her usual or should I say unusual sense of humor and we also have a cat, a pig and a kangaroo taking major parts in the story Christine gets into all sorts of situations, both dangerous and funny, when they try to solve the murder mystery.I have read J.Q Rose s books before and this is another good one The author has that uncanny knack of putting together a serious situation with a touch of thoroughly enjoyed this book, which says a lot as I don t usually read inspirational books, but this is a definite can t put it down book Well done Ms Rose, can t wait for the next book from your writing desk I m really sorry to give Coda to Murder only three stars I ve read J.Q Rose s other lightweight mystery about murder in a senior park in Florida. The humor keeps Coda singing despite a number of plot holes and just glitchy stuff that bothered me An example is saying Christine would have to notify the murder victim s William s sister No, she wouldn t The police would notify next of kin For that matter, there s much talk about nobody knowing much about William s life outside of the church I m really sorry to give Coda to Murder only three stars I ve read J.Q Rose s other belabor the point. But I liked the MC, Christine, and her stalwart sidekick, Lacey I enjoyed the interplay around the pig and the kangaroo I almost wish the story was about Christine s tribulations trying to keep up with the two service animals. The reason for the murder is solid and the revelation of the killer good form.I see the 5 star reviews here I wish the reviewers wouldn t do that when the book clearly is not 5 star material It s certainly a likable read and many will enjoy it Sometimes a book just doesn t work for me I m afraid this is one of the times I m really sorry to say that because I think this could have been a dandy romance mystery with better content editing Coda to Murder This book took me off guard, in a good way It s an easy, fun read A curl up and just enjoy type in, as did the romance and the inspirational message of the story I read it in one night, couldn t put it down I highly recommend this story. This is one of the few times that I have read a novel where I feel I learned a great deal about the author, J.Q Rose, being very spiritual and a kind person That being said, it was a delightful cozy, with some romance, some religion, and lots of mystery This novel has an interesting cast of characters, humorous situations, and was filled with surprises I liked the pastor, Christine Hobbs the protagonist in the story She was strong, down to earth, and generous.
