her And, of course, whenever others are around he doesn t say a word And things go missing And she also finds other things in her house which she definitely didn t purchase Good that she has her best friend Julian who helps her after the sudden death of her young husband Than there is the mysterious Ivory Black who somehow always seems to happen to turn up wherever Peppa is and treats her rather strangely and is quite mean to her without any reason. There is a paranormal element to this story which for me came quite unexpectedly here But it s not one of those completely unbelievable plots and I think it fitted the story rather nicely I do have a bit of problems with the character of Ivory Black Without giving too much away as often with characters who are not very pleasant, he is presented in way he sees himself This did made a me a bit uncomfortable at times This book is not very long, only 188 pages, a quick read which will keep you interested.http thepegsterreads.blogspot.co.uk The Julian to I Black , to Della and the dreams and remembrances of Tony to piece the picture together This novel proved to be a light mystery, humorously and playfully touched with a little sadness and paranormal edge It s the perfect book to read while in transit, or on a rainy night curled up on the sofa I enjoyed this book and its twists and turns There were several things I was able to clue in, but a couple of things completely took me by surprise, and I must give the author kudos for that.My only real complaint is that I wish this book was a little longer It s a somewhat quick read,of a novella, and while I enjoy novellas as much as novels, there s a few things in here that I think could have been expanded , particularly the whole thing with the LSD and paranormal investigation.I I at first, didn t make sense to me, but then they were explained or cleared up later, so by the end of the story, all the important questions that I had during this point or that of the story, were answered It s quite obvious that Black had serious issues, ones that he tried to cover up by lying to himself especially with what he did to Alice but then this is nothing new as I know people who delude themselves into minimizing their serious mistakes His behavior towards Peppa makes this evenclearer.I found this author s writing style itself very accessible and easy to read She has a great way of describing things sometimes, and some really funny lines dialogue For those who complain about spelling mistakes, give it a break British spelling is just as valid as American spelling, so I had no issues at all with the spellings of certain words, the British spelling in no way detracted from the story or made it hard to read 4.5 Stars Cats, Scarves and Liars by Kathryn White is a breath chuckles throughout this book with the smart arse ness that is a Peppa Peppa has her flaws, as we all do One is her inferiority complex, and the other is that she can be a little hypocritical Having just lost her husband of seven months far too soon, she lives day by day, working at a post office, quarrelling with the obnoxious Ivory Black, talking to her cat who s suddenly started talking back, and wondering whether she s lost it To top it off, she s falling for her late hubby s besty, who used to annoy her, but now she s given him the time of day, he actually might be too good for her Or so she believes remember the inferiority thing Things take a nasty turn when we find outabout Ivory Black and he becomes a bit of a super villain I can t share any, but he s one of the most off putting villains I ve read I would slap him, but he s actually too gross to touch Kudos to Ms White on creating someone so vividly vile, I actually believe he exists This is my second read from Kathryn White, and once again, she didn t disappoint I enjoy her complex characters, who we spend time getting to know as they get to know themselves I enjoy her ability to show and tell in equal parts, as I believe a good book should. The only trouble with Cats, Scarves and Liars The length It s cliche to say, but I just wantedMore of Peppa, adventures, talking cats, a littleflesh on the bone 4.5 stars A twist of believed but it just might set her free.Cats, Scarves and Liars is a convincing portrayal of a young woman in the grip of melancholy struggling with esteem issues and a growing attraction to her dead husband s best friend Set in Adelaide, South Australia, there is a great sense of place and locals will appreciate the recognisable details Peppa s thoughts about the variety of customers who frequent the post office where she works are often amusing and to anyone who has ever worked in a service job very relatable There are moments where the clarity of the plot is lost in favour of retaining mystery, which for me reduced the possible tension of the scene but did not detract from the story White s greatest strength is her ability to get inside the head of the psychopathic antagonist to reveal the warped logic of a narcissist without empathy or moral fibre.A tale of death and acceptance, Cats, Scarves and Liars is not an edge of your seat thriller It is a thoughtful and original portrayal of a young woman grappling with loss and betrayal forced to confront a very unsavoury and surprising truth I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway. So as the cover states, this is meant to be an offbeat thriller, and it is Peppa is quirky, though a little immature and simple minded at times The storyline is zany and out there, similar to The Hitchhiker s quick read, and I m glad I got the chance to check it out. That being said, I had three issues that I find worth bringing up here There were a decent amount of typos Most being spelling and word order That s a line edit, and it doesn t take away from the story, but it is noticeable The storyline gets pretty predictable rather quickly I was barely into the story when I guessed how things would play out, which wereor less correct The book description gives away some major plot developments that don t pop up until much later in the book which is only around 180 pages long to begin with.Over all though, I liked it It wasn t exactly a thriller in my opinion, but then again, I don t know if it was supposed to be It s a light book that s quick to get through It s quirky enough that you can almost entirely look past some of the character faults a few characters seem borderline deranged Looking at the book s prices, I would recommend reading it in ebook format, especially if you just want to try it out, but it s available in print both onand the book depository if you re interested This book follows a 23 year old woman called Peppa whose life is a bit of a mystery She was adopted at birth by her mother s cousin for reasons unknown to her at the time, and her husband has recently been killed in a hit and run There seems to be a middle aged man, a customer from her job at the post office, stalking her and there are strange deaths happening over Adelaide How could everything possibly be linked I ll admit it I was sceptical going into this book It s based in Adelaide This book familiar However, whatever we lose from an unexciting location, wethan get back in plot I had to read it in one sitting there were so many twists and unexpected turns I was totally invested in a fiery redheaded character that watches Doctor Who, listens to Florence and the Machine, and loves fetta and spinach pies My kind of girl I found all of the characters fantastic as well Maybe it s because I m still having a character depth problem after finishing the Divergent series, but all of the characters were so complex for such a short book There were so many different layers to different characters and no two were remotely the same This just made me so happy My jaw was literally dropping throughout the book as I developed theories and had them confirmed or blown out of the water Kathryn White has done some absolutely fantastic work here and I d happily recommend it to everyone in Adelaide {PDF} ð Cats, Scarves and Liars ⚫ Meet Peppa GrovePeppa is just your average Australian young woman, reallyyears old, widowed and owner of a cat who can speak perfect English But no one will believe her about the cat Why is she being stalked by one of the customers from her job at the the way it is It got really weird at the end when the true story behind the talking cat was revealed, but it all came together and started making sense as well Overall, I felt it was just a pretty fun read There were some deeper topics, but they were sort of glossed over and Peppa s personality really took over I would recommend it for a nice Sunday afternoon if you are looking to have a little fun
