I started reading this book because of its influence on TS Eliot the third section of Preludes is very much indebted to Philippe s world I found it surprising how explicit the writing was for its time and how objective the depiction of all these creatures of the demi monde He writes so sympathetically but not sentimentally of these people and their lives.
