EBOOK Ã Anti-Depressant Û Five brutal narratives detail the story of obsession and redemptionYoung, vulnerable and struggling with psychological disorders, five characters share their sometimes brutal narratives in Anti Depressant Each holds a piece of the other s puzzle, but the truth blurs with every interaction, and skewed perspectives cause their worlds to narrow and suffocate Intersecting narratives capture the thought patterns, stress and emotional hijacking of depression, anxiety and panic attacksIn the throes of obsession, Shelby lusts after Steph, to the point of losing his grip on reality A best selling novelist is crushed by the pressure to write a follow up book A young woman struggles with a system that labeled her suicidal A battered husband finds new love in the worst of places And an affair that neither party can remember shatters what looked to be a perfect futureAnti Depressant is a darkly comic coming of age novel for the st century, drenched in self absorption, anxiety, terrible decisions and the blind hope that tomorrow will be better, if only Anti Depressant is an excellent novel The structure of the story itself was very different and interesting I found the characters to be easy to relate to, and I think they were very well developed The writing was excellent even across the different characters points of view It wasn t hard to figure out which character spoke and thought which way and that made the story evenenjoyable I would definitely read this one again, and have recommended it to friends. The word, depressed tends to be thrown around a lot in society for trivial things It s almost like crying wolf I m depressed This is depressing Oh, things aren t going well for me, I must be depressed clinically depressed, it can be hidden amongst obscurity, unbeknownst to the individual suffering, and even those around them Unfortunately, one may realize this after it s too late, after the damage has already been done Anti Depressant illustrates that concept perfectly.I received this novel as part of the First Reads program, and it was very good However, this novel is dark, unconventional, and the protagonists are ANYTHING but typical It would be wrong to say that it tackled the theme of depression It would beaccurate to say that it sent you head first into it Initially, I found it a little difficult to grasp, because you are almost maneuvering through a variety of character perspectives and narratives, as they paint one larger picture It definitely exhibits a Crash vibe It may take you a paragraph, sometimesto figure out who is speaking or what character is being referenced This is intentional, because it keeps you guessing as to whom is presenting their perspective on a given situation, which is enticing I know there were several instances where I thought one character was speaking, or being referenced by someone else only to find out that I was COMPLETELY and utterly wrong as the novel progressed SIGH A young man, who has been seemingly wronged by everything thus far in his life, finds unrequited love in his one salvation An author contemplates quitting after receiving immense pressure to write another book A man boasts how men should exert dominance over women, but his own bruises and gashes indicate an entirely different story These are just a few of the character ordeals that are part of the overall puzzle. One of my favorite quotes from the latter portion of the novel that really sums up life in general is Sometimes things just happen, and you either accept them into your life and allow them to change you, or you get rid of them and push them away, refusing to change over and over until you realize that it already changed you You can definitely discern the psychological distortion in the characters, as they battle conflicting emotions all amongst a thematic, life changing, sea of pills, drugs, abuse, rape, frustration, suicide and love As the story unfolds, the characters make decisions where their course of action connects them either through some seemingly chance encounter, or some deeper association WARNING If you don t have some semblance of hope, it will be rather difficult, almost torturous getting through this novel It will leave you reevaluating your own stance on what constitutes psychological depression, and how it can truly, for lack of aperfect term,f up a person Interesting novel, an impulse buy which I knew very little about but turned out to be pretty good Has a bit of a Crash feel to it, in the way the This book is odd, sometimes difficult to follow I found myself asking, do people really think like this Its a dark confusing book but somehow things start to make sense toward the end and I was left
